Migrate-Magento1_to_Magento2

Why Upgrade

Magento announced and end of life for Magento 1 from June 2020. This does not mean that your store would stop working. However, it does mean

  • No support for any issues on Magento 1 available from Magento
  • Latest security patches will no longer be released for Magento 1, and so could make your site vulnerable, and you would put your customer and brand at risk
  • New features for Magento 1 would no longer be available
  • No upgrades to Magento 1
  • Developers and Development companies would move to Magento 2, and so support would be difficult.
  • Your payment gateway providers would soon stop supporting you.

What should you consider while making the switch

Plan your switch

While switching from magento 1 to magento 2, you might want to list out all the features and customizations done on magento 1 and explore if these features are built in features on Magento 2. List out all the integrations if any with internal and external systems such as payment gateways, shipping companies, CRMs, ERP and others and look for available extensions on Magento 2. Analyze whether you would need any feature upgrades and customizations to be done. Would you also have a user interface revamp done, along with the upgrade?

Choose your support Partner

While some companies might have an internal development team to take over the upgrade, you might not have, or your internal team might not be hands-on on Magento 2. You would look for a partner with sufficient expertise in Magento 2 community and enterprise.
